An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a second dwelling unit created on a lot with a house, attached house or manufactured home. The second unit is created auxiliary to, and is smaller than, the main dwelling. ADUs can be created in a variety of ways, including conversion of a portion of an existing house, addition to an existing house, conversion of an existing garage or the construction of an entirely new building. The main reasons for building ADU’s are to gain extra rental income or to house a family member.

ADUs have always been an easily-spotted feature of Portland's cityscape. Take a walk or drive through most neighborhoods here and you'll see ADUs ranging in size and construction techniques from very small/simple shed-like units to converted garages to fairly well-sized detached homes in the back or side yards of existing homes.

While various tax incentives and other regulations will contunie to evolve, ADUs will always be a prt of our city, and as such design and construction companies will always be needed. That's where Tim Austin LLC comes in. Our roots are in home building, which is a perfect foundation for doing design and construction work on these types of structures. We can guide you through the entire project from start to finish, and can even work with you to do the planning with our 3D modeling software. (Learn more about our 3D modeling here.)

Tim Austin LLC has extensive knowledge of the construction of ADU’s. We have built and converted many of them. We can take you through the design and permit stage through construction. We invite you to visit our ADU Gallery to view the level of quality work we perform every day.
